Commerce Ministry officials told the Senate Standing Committee on Commerce in a briefing that China is interested in importing donkeys from Pakistan.
While informing the Senate Standing Committee, Commerce Ministry officials said that China is a big market for meat exports. Dinesh Kumar, a member of the Standing Committee, said that China is asking Pakistan to export donkeys and dogs.
Senator Abdul Qadir said that the Chinese ambassador has asked many times to export meat, Senator Mirza Muhammad Afridi said that animals are cheap in Afghanistan, Pakistan can import and export meat from there.
Commerce Ministry officials said import of animals from Afghanistan is temporarily not allowed due to lumpy skin disease.
The Standing Committee expressed concern over the withdrawal of power subsidy to five export sectors.
Commerce Ministry officials said that the issue has been raised before the Finance Ministry to refund the subsidy, as the export sector is facing various problems.
The Standing Committee has recommended the government to resolve the issue of power subsidy to the export industry at the earliest.
